About

We are a young family dealing with the global financial crisis in our own special way - packing up and touring Australia in our caravan! Come follow our journey

The big decision

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

The decision for us to travel around Australia wasn’t really a hard one to make. We both love travelling and both see this as a vital adventure for our family. I guess we’re ‘doing our bit’ for the Australian economy too :) I hope other families with young children will feel inspired to follow in our footsteps and take off on an adventure of their own.

Our estimated departure date is somewhere early July. But that is not set in stone just yet so we’ll see.

So far we have the car – a ’91 Land Cruiser 80 series – and we’ve got our caravan – a Windsor Rapid – and boy oh boy do we have a long list of other things we need too!  We’re slowly ticking off the boxes but we seem to add more to the list than we get to tick off!

Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy sharing this journey with us. We’ll be posting regularly to keep you all up to date with the planning and preparations before we head off. We also hope to post at least weekly once we head off and no doubt we’ll share lots of photos too!

Till next time!

You will love it! 20 years ago (was it really that long)my husband and I took our two children aged 11 and 6 on a trip up the centre and down the east coast. We loved it and were glad we did it. The children are now grown up and still talk about the great time we had. Hope you all have a fantastic trip.

  • That sounds like so much fun! We are from the US, but would love to travel down to Australia and do what you have planned. Maybe in a few years when we can save enough money. Any recommendations on where we should try to visit if we make it down?

  • I’ve commented a few times already and have yet to say thank you for linking to our blog. :) So, thank you.

I can’t wait to leave on our trip. Our planned departure date is July 1st so it’s coming up fast.

How are you planning to finance the trip with going for 6 months? Will you work as well or use on savings? We’ve been planning and saving for 12 years to make ours happen.

      Thanks for linking back! :)
We don’t have a date set just yet but we are looking at early July. So we might see you somewhere on the road! :)
Financing the trip – mainly savings. But we’ll do some work here and there – I guess we’ll see how we go.

    Hi Silvia

We are doing much the same trip in 2011 with a 2 and 3 year old so will be watching your blog with great interest. Please let us know how the Windsor Rapid goes as this is also at the top of our list. At the moment we have a Jayco Dove but the Rapid looks so much more suitable. Let us know if you find it to be a hassle after so many stops.

    Hi Sylvia
Found your site today and will be reading with great interest. We are taking 6-7mths to do as much as we can. We are leaving in July 2010 and heading north and across the top end to WA. We have 2 children, will be 11 and 9. Now to get organised. Would be interested in knowing what to pack and costs. Regards Janelle
